NSEG was formed in May 1966 in response to the Engineering Industry Training Board Levy/Grant scheme, which was introduced to ensure all companies in the engineering sector played their part in training activities. The levy/grant scheme was perceived to penalise small companies who had no access to direct training facilities, or people employed as direct training specialists.
Twenty two small to medium sized engineering companies pooled their resources to form the association, many of them still in membership, with the concept of sharing the cost of a training professional.
The Company became a Limited Company in 1968 and is Limited by Guarantee, with no share capital, and has charitable status.
Each company in membership has a Nominated Representative, usually at Director level.
The Group offers a professional service in all aspects of:- Employment law, training (management to shop floor), training needs analysis, NVQ’s, Portable Appliance Testing and Health & Safety.
Courses are provided in many disciplines such as:- Abrasive Wheels, Power Press Regulations, Employment Law & Regulations and Health & Safety. Courses are also developed to meet special needs upon request. Our course brochure gives all the necessary data.
From those Nominated Representatives is elected a General Purposes Committee, (trustees) who administers the Group. A Chairman (2 years), Vice Chairman, Secretary/Treasurer and up to 9 Committee Members are elected on an annual basis at the A.G.M., which takes place every November.
The Group is run on a day to day basis by the Chief Executive, two Training Officers and an Administrator. (See organisation chart attached).
The cost of membership is kept to a minimum. See list of charges attached.
