Engineering Apprenticeships

Welcome to our information service for Engineering Apprenticeships.

What are apprenticeships?
Apprenticeships are a training and assessment package to enable you to gain the knowledge and experience to carry out the tasks of the job to the right standard on a consistent basis.

What type of apprenticeships are there?

Student Apprenticeships
14/16 year olds following the vocational route of the school curriculum. Extended work experience or attendance at a local college to gain NVQ unit(s) or GCSE in Engineering.

Apprenticeships
Usually applicable to students leaving school and expecting to achieve a minimum of 4 GCSE’s in Maths, English, Science and a technical subject at grades D-F.

The Framework requires:-

  • Initial Training – 3 P.E.O. units
  • NVQ level 2 in skill specific subject
  • Key Skills at level 1
  • Technical Certificate (gained at College)

Advanced Apprenticeships
Aimed at 16/19 year old learners who are expecting, or have, 4 GCSE’s in Maths, English, Science and technical subject at grades A-D.

The Framework requires:-

  • Initial Training – 8 P.E.O. units (usually done in 1st year centre)
  • NVQ level 3 in skill specific subject
  • Key Skills at level 2 (those with grade C can be exempt)
  • Technical Certificate (gained at College)
